SIT is probing the 1995-batch IPS officer in his alleged involvement in the Kotkapura firing case. SIT is keeping a close check on the IG Umranangal personal life and educational background.
There are sufficient facts that verify that it was not PS Umranangal who gave the firing order in Kotkapura on that fateful day. This has been verified by SIT investigation and Mantar Singh’s call records.
SIT is Probing the Authenticity of PS Umranangal Academic Qualification
In another act of dishonoring one of the respectable police officers of Punjab Police, Special Investigation Team has taken a surprise decision to probe the authenticity of Paramraj Singh Umranangal’s academic qualification.
He is a native of UmraNangal Village in Rayya Tehsil in Amritsar District, and he completed his Bachelor of Artsin 1986 through the Distance Education Department of Punjabi University, Patiala.
It’s hard to imagine why the Special Investigation Team would stoop so low to investigate Paramraj’s academic qualifications. The investigation team paid a visit to Punjabi University to carry out the probe; they even asked the university authorities to submit holistic details of his academic record.
Confirming the probe, Manjeet Singh Nijjar(Punjabi University Registrar) gave a statement saying that we provided all the details, and we fully cooperated with the team.

WORLD CANCER CARE (Donation by IG Umranangal for Cancer Patients)
The best thing about IG Umranangal is that he used to take a special interest in all these events. World Cancer Care (UK-based charity and international organization) also offers free medical care for all cancer patients. These patients are provided with free health checkups and medicines.
It seems that the list can go on and on. It was Paramraj Singh Umranangal, who helped Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh, who gave his life for the nation in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. He was the one who visited the subedar’s native village in Tarn Taran and helped the grieved family by giving cheque of Rs One Lakh.
He also paid a visit to the family of Raghbir Singh, was a significant part of the 74th Battalion of CRPF,at his native village Sathiala in Amritsar district to hand over a cheque of Rs One Lakh. He laid his life during a battle with the Maoist attackers in Burkapal, Chhattisgarh.
IGP Umranangal Victim of a Political Vendetta
What has happened with Paramraj Singh Umranangal is utterly wrong and unethical. He has been a victim of fake propaganda, and his arrest is politically motivated. Political interference is quite common in high profile cases, and this is visible in this case as well. This case has the involvement of leading politicians and top officials of police, they have tried to influence the case.
Well, he belongs to a family who was at the forefront during the 80s in Punjab. They have sacrificed their family members for the peace and harmony of Punjab. It is unethical to doubt someone’s academic qualifications, especially when someone is posted as Inspector General. Now, even the Special Investigation Team is having all the facts, and it must have cleared all the doubts that the investigation team was havingabout PS Umranangal’s academic qualification.
As per Times of India, IG Umranangal is a 1995-batch IPS officer (as per official Punjab Police website). You need to clear UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)exam, and when you have cleared the exam, a final list of successful candidates is rolled out.
Last step is the interview & educational documents verification of the finalized candidates. Only if your documents are being verified & you have cleared the interview, you are being deployed at a respective designation, as an IPS officer .
It is wrong to question on someone’s degree who is posted at a highly respectable and responsible position. Clearly, if he is positioned as IG after years of service, he has proved that he is capable of the position.
This case is also an example that the police and politics should function independently. The police should do their tasks, and politicians should do what they do best.
