Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura cases remain unresolved despite the rigorous demands of Insaf Morcha and other Sikh supporters.
Why Sukhbir Singh Badal Visited Zira Court?
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, along with former Kotkapura SAD MLA Mantar Singh Brar, who is also an accused in the Kotkapura firing case have skipped the SIT summons. However, they appeared in the Zira court in the highway blocking case on Tuesday.

They refused to receive the summons despite the Akali party claiming that their leader is ready to cooperate with SIT for investigation in sacrilege cases.
The summons were issued in connection with two FIRs registered at Kotkapura city police station on October 14, 2015, and August 7, 2018. The two leaders were to appear at Punjab Police Officers’ Institute, Sector 32, Chandigarh.
SAD spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler alleged that Sukhbir Badal had not been served summons “personally”. Now the SIT team has issued another date.
This Wednesday, SIT probing the firing case summoned once again to Sukhbir Singh Badal to appear for questioning on September 6.
Story of 7 Years (2015-2022)
Sukhbir Singh Badal was Deputy Chief Minister and handled Home Department in 2015 when the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura firing case took place.
In the case, former IG Umranangal and former Director General Sumedh Singh Saini are already questioned. Earlier, Sukhbir Badal was questioned by SIT head additional Director General of Police (ADGP) LK Yadav in June 2021.
However, it was the first time in the AAP tenure when Sukhbir Singh Badal was summoned. The SIT led by former IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who is now an AAP MLA, had also questioned Sukhbir in November 2018.
Taking a flashback to the incident
Two persons were killed in Behbal Kalan (Krishan Bhagwan Singh of Niamiwala village and Gurjeet Singh of Sarawan village) while some people were injured at Kotkapura in Faridkot after the police fired at the protesters in October 2015.

On July 12, the trial court in Faridkot directed both SITs probing the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan firing cases to submit their status reports within a fortnight. Another SIT led by IG Naunihal Singh is probing the Behbal Kalan police firing incident.
The SIT team has confirmed that the police had gone to deliver the summon to Sukhbir Singh Badal but no one received them.
Justice is Awaited
Whatever may be the cause of the delay, it is truly revolting that such a sensitive case is still pending. The victims are waiting for justice and their patience is breaking down. People are now waiting for the reality to unfold.
